Greek Architectura
-
Description
Diverging from the rest of the Architectura series, this composition pays tribute to Greece. It portrays landscapes in white and blue hues, using various shades of turquoise to the darkest blues to evoke ambiguity between sky, sea, pool and sand shadows; the whites accentuate the different planes, achieving transparency through multiple layers of glaze. The viewer is immersed in the clarity of the sky of the Greek islands and the blue of the Aegean Sea.

Artist
Vernon
Inspired by Harry Bertoia, Alexander Calder and Sol LeWitt, Vernon infuses his sculptures with movement while capturing the humanity of his characters through simple form. Committed to nature and history, he carves bases from 17th-century stones and 18th-century timber, and his Architectura painting series employs 17th-century Flemish glazing techniques to create minimal, abstract and colorful paintings, reflecting his dedication to anonymity as a kind of contemporary freedom.
